Welcome to my blog, where I share my thoughts on food, travel, pop culture...just about anything. As for the blog name, it's a Seinfeld reference. If you don't get it, then this is probably not the blog for you.

Shark Week

Da da...da da...dadadadadada!!! Okay, so that was my rendition of the theme from Jaws. Two notes that forever changed the way we think about sharks (and that made us think twice about getting into the ocean).
So, it's officially here, the time of year I look forward to so much - Shark Week.
Have I mentioned that I am deathly afraid of sharks? It's numero uno on my list of phobias. But I am fascinated by these magnificent creatures. They are beautiful and intelligent, and I have a high respect for them. But the thought of being in the water with one - no thanks. I think my fear began when I was a small child and I happened to see Jaws on TV. That was all it took. Watching that movie now is kind of fun, because the special effects are pretty humorous. But I still can only watch through the hands that cover my eyes.
I once had a friend who suggested that I do what they call "exposure therapy". Her suggestion was for me to travel to South Africa and go on one of these "great white adventures" where they take you out to the middle of the ocean, drop you into a cage, throw in fish guts all around you, and wait for the great white feeding frenzy to begin. Talk about exposure. I quickly assured her this would not be happening.
So, the closest I will get is watching Shark Week on the Discovery Channel - with my feet tucked securely under me on the bed...because sharks like dangling feet.

Glee

I mentioned this in my previous post, but I just have to say how much I love this show! I admit that I was not expecting much (I mean, c'mon...it's on Fox), but I tuned in since there was nothing else on after Idol. I was blown away! This is a great commentary on high school life...you've got the jocks, the geeks, the cheerleaders (cherrios, as they are called on the show), and then the glee kids (as the cheer coach describes all the different cliques as parts of a house, the glee kids are "sub-basement"). But the Spanish teacher takes over glee club and attempts to meld these worlds together. How he does it is hilarious and a bit sinister. And Jane Lynch plays the cheer coach/gym teacher - enough said there. She is amazing and her comedic timing is flawless. If you have no idea who she is, watch Best in Show - one of my all-time favorite movies. After watching the kids belt out a rousing rendition of "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey at the end of the show, I was disappointed to find out that I would have to wait until fall to see another episode. But I quickly recovered after discovering that I could download the pilot episode for free on itunes. If you want to watch it, go to http://www.fox.com/glee/, sit back, and enjoy! I call this show "The High School Musical for the Rest of Us"!

I am such a bad blogger

Hey ya'll. So yeah...it's been a while. I have had every intention of blogging many times over the past few months, but I failed. I blame it on my addiction to two things: TV shows and the Twilight Saga :)
Yes, I am hopelessly addicted to Edward, Bella, the Cullen clan...it is my new obsession. If you haven't read this series, you must. I read all 4 books in exactly 1 week. I thought everyone was crazy for liking this stuff. I also thought it was for teens, so I refused to even look at the books. My friend suggested I watch the movie, and if I liked it I should read the books. Well, I settled in to watch it, very skeptical, already having a negative opinion before the opening credits. Then, I was suddenly swept up into the Twilight zone. It was amazing. Since then, I have read all the books, blogs, tweets, fan pages...you name it. I am obsessed. I feel like a teenage girl again, but so what. I am anxiously awaiting 11-20-09 when the next movie, New Moon, opens in theatres. Now I know what all those crazy sci-fi people feel when they are willing to camp out in a movie line just to get tickets to the first show :) Oh, and I have a great group of friends who are willing to go with me - they are just as obsessed as I am!
As for TV shows, most of my shows have ended their seasons. Here are some of my old and new favorites:
  1. The Office
  2. Parks and Recreation
  3. 30 Rock
  4. Real Housewives (of OC, NYC, and NJ)
  5. Glee - seriously, I cannot wait for this one...the pilot episode was amazing!
  6. Chuck
  7. American Idol - thank God Kris won!

Shoes

Okay, I confess. I have a bit of a shoe obsession. And this is the time of year when I get all giddy and excited about the prospect of new shoes for spring and summer. All winter, my feet are stuck in black boots, brown boots, rainboots, workboots. But once I experience that first day of 50 degree weather, my feet start to twitch and I just can't wait to break out the flip-flops, peep-toes, sandles...anything that doesn't resemble a boot. Forget the robin - the open-toed shoes are the first sign of spring for me! And the great thing about shoes is that, no matter how much my weight fluctuates, my shoes ALWAYS fit.

So, I am anxiously awaiting an upcoming pedicure. After all, my feet have got to look great for their big debut!

Wow - my very own blog. What to write, what to write...
Anyone who knows me knows that I am never at a loss for words. I ALWAYS have something to say, but don't always have an audience (and I LOVE an audience). So, what better platform than the internet, right? I'll be posting random thoughts and random stories at random times. So, stay tuned!
And as for the blog name - it's a Seinfeld reference. If you don't get it then this is probably not the blog for you :)
